Paulo Freire

Paulo Freire is one of the greatest influential theorists about education of the XX C. He was born in Brasil, Sao Paulo in 1921. In 1943 he began his studies of philosophy and Psychology of language in the Recife University.  This pedagogue was one of the first devoted to the critical pedagogy, it is based in an idea that considered the education as a way for emancipation, this theory believes that the human can build knowledge from his own experiences, the subject must become aware and empowered of his reality, the target is to generate a social transformation.
In 1960 Freire made a program for adult literacy, this work is a proposal for the liberation of the oppressed human, the liberation of the working class across the process teaching – learning / learning – teaching with a horizontal pedagogy.
The publications of Paulo Freire are many, the most famous are 1970: Pedagogia do oprimido, 1977: Cartas à Guiné-Bissau, 1992: Pedagogia da esperança and 1993: Política e educação.
 In the same line of work are thinkers like Giroux, McLaren and Apple. Freire dies in 1997.
